Michael Strautmanis will be visiting Pitt Law on Wednesday, October 22, to speak about the Obama Campaign and the Obama Voter Protection Program.
The event will be held in Room 113 of the Barco Law Building at 12pm. Mr. Strautmanis is a close and personal friend to Barack and Michelle Obama. Mr. Strautmanis also serves as the Senior Counsel to the Obama campaign. He will certainly play a major role in any Obama administration and possibly might even have a cabinet level position.
Lunch will be provided by the campaign. So come by, get some food and meet a future Mover and Shaker within the Obama Administration.

Senator Obama stands apart on yet another issue from John McCain
Last evening, Thursday, October 9, 2008, the Law School hosted Ms. Lilly Ledbetter, who spoke to students about the circumstances surrounding her case, and the recent decision of Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Inc. 127 S.Ct. 2162 (2007).
The ruling of the Supreme Court is considered by many to be a setback for equal rights. In response, the House of Representatives has passed legislation in the form of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which is aimed to prevent this type of gender dicrimination in pay equity. However, the bill failed to recieve enough votes in the Senate to avoid the reach of a guaranteed Presidential veto.
John McCain opposed this legislation, stating that “this type” of legislation “opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.” Senator Obama fully supports the bill and voted for its passage. In turn, Lilly Ledbetter has thrown her support behind Senator Obama. If elected President, Senator Obama would not appose the bill, removing the threat of a Presidential Veto therby eliminating the only remaining roadblock to the bill’s passage.
CNN.com provides insight into statements made by both candidates in last night’s debate. If you are curious as to whether these claims are accurate, please visit the site and read the posted responses.
