The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has recently posted summer internship positions on the usajobs.gov website. Deadline for applications are April 15, 2011, although you should apply ASAP before positions fill up. The positions are unpaid, but you should be able to work with Dean Deasy to obtain externship credits.

These positions would provide you a unique opportunity to gain practical patent and intellectual property experience. In past, Patent Experience Externship Program allowed interns to learn and participate in roles normally performed by patent examiners. The skills obtained were desirable to patent prosecution law firms and practices. These internships have been on hiatus for the past couple due to budgetary constraints and they are making their first reappearance since around 2006-2007.

Friday, Feb. 11, 12:30PM - Barco Law Room 113

The Student Intellectual Property Law Association would like to invite you all to both an informative and entertaining afternoon this Friday, February 11th at 12:30PM in Room 113. As a follow up to the PIPLA career roundtable many of you enjoyed, Friday will give students the opportunity to ask follow up questions of their older and more experienced peers and to spend some time with the students they can expect to enjoy class with for the remainder of their law school careers.

Following any discussion and question and answer, SIPLA will be screening the film ‘Flash of Genius’, starring Greg Kinnear, as a way to relax on a Friday afternoon and still learn a thing or two about Intellectual Property. As always, in true Pitt Law Student Group fashion, food and beverages will be provided and we certainly don’t want anything left over to take home. So feel free to join us for lunch and an afternoon flick complete with pizza, drinks and popcorn.

Please RSVP so we have an idea of how many people will be attending: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=194789583881485
