Pitt Legal Services Incubator (PLSI)
The Pitt Legal Services Incubator (PLSI) is a one or two-year program designed to support University of Pittsburgh School of Law alumni who aim to start sustainable solo or small firm practices focused on delivering affordable, high-quality legal services in any practice area.
PLSI assists in the business side of running a legal practice. Participants will create and refine detailed business plans tailored to the growth of their individual practices.
The program provides support in key areas of launching and managing a financially sustainable practice, including client development, complying with ethical obligations of charging fees, operating a firm, and legal marketing. Additionally, PLSI will facilitate mentorship opportunities, pairing participants with experienced attorneys in relevant practice areas.
Workspace and Facilities
PLSI attorneys will be provided with office workspace in the Barco Law Building. Each participant will have access to shared amenities, including:
- Workspace with a multi-function printer/scanner/copier
- High-speed WiFi
- Access to private conference rooms/Zoom rooms suitable for in-person or virtual client meetings or attending virtual proceedings
Participants will be required to pay an annual license fee for the use of these facilities. Participants will also receive case management software and research software for a year to help in firm management.
Each PLSI attorney is responsible for providing their own malpractice insurance, laptop, phone, office supplies, and any other equipment or services necessary to operate a solo or small firm practice.
Eligibility
The program is open to all Pitt Law graduates who are licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
